My name is Rebecca and I'm a qualified integrative therapeutic counsellor, registered with the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). This means that I work with each individual in a way that is client led integrating both humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. I have experience working in two counselling agencies with both adults and children, as a counsellor in a secondary school and work in private practice where I work with adults both individually and with couples. My couples therapy training took place at the Basingstoke Counselling Service and the NAOS Institute.
Key Aims:
Fundamentally, the counselling relationship is a key factor in opening up the opportunity for a beneficial outcome; and I endeavour to provide a space that is safe and supportive, one that is non-judgemental, trusting and offers compassionate understanding to enable you an opportunity to explore what is causing difficulty in your life. My therapeutic hope is to work together with my clients towards a desired outcome, and to discover and recover the space within us which is free, available and unoccupied but which may be hidden from view and inhibiting the capacity for change and personal growth.
The way I work:
My therapeutic stance involves working holistically, which means that I regard each individual as a totality of mind, body, emotions and spirit who experiences life in a way that is unique. With a deeper insight into our self it can help us navigate and turn towards new possibilities; and experience personal growth that helps us respond differently to what is presently causing distress. There is no 'one size fits all' therapeutic modality and therefore I will work with you and support you in a way that feels most effective for you. This may involve an exploration of what has gone before as a means to understand difficulties in the present; and at times, I may offer suggestions to work creatively, collaboratively goal set, incorporate mindfulness and include supportive challenge. All of these are invitational and without obligation.
Issues:
People access counselling and psychotherapy for many reasons and I have experience working with emotional and psychological issues such as; relationship difficulties, loss and grief, low self-esteem, difficult life events and transitional periods, stress, anxiety, low mood and depression, work related issues, trauma and feelings of 'stuckness'.
I work from a room within The Cherry Tree Centre in Henley and from my home in a self-contained room in Streatley, Berkshire which is near Reading, Newbury and Oxford and within easy access to both the A34 and M4.
I use Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
